A year-end look into what I saw as a wedding photographer in 2024 and wondering what 2025 will bring

To join everyone else by posting numbers and stats on instagram, I had a look through alllll the weddings I shot this year to pull some fave moments from each to share. Doing so showed me some definite trends woven through the special days I got to document.

Every year is different for me in terms of venues I end up at, and dates that get booked (third weekend of August to this day remains the NUMBER ONE Saturday that is most requested). This year was a “fall-heavy” year with a handful of spring and summer weddings sprinkled in but September and October were jammed to the brim.

The majority of ceremonies were at people’s personal properties this year. I stepped into many intimate moments of couples getting ready at home, then speaking vows under the canopy of mom’s garden, or alongside the waves lapping at the shore.

It’s lucky to have spaces to host guests, but if you don’t and are thinking small and intimate and outside the box – there are little parks and gardens around the city OR you might see what AirBNB has to offer on a lake and build it in as a weekend staycation/mini honeymoon.

The next prevailing element I noted was couples taking TIME. Scheduling in time to savour their day. Whether that be a first look to settle the nerves and do private vows, or time before the reception to breathe, OR making sure there was lots of time to dedicate to guests.

This couple took a handful of their nearest and dearest and had midday charcuterie. UMMM…. YES

The final aspect was every wedding this year was unapologetically THEM. Everyone had a day curated to embrace their love and those they love.

For this upcoming year, my prediction is either big or small, no in between! And either embracing traditions completely, or throwing them all out the window.

To those in the planning process: do you have ideas on how to make your day unique to you?
